Meet Thapelo & Charlotte {A 30th Birthday Celebration with a Surprise Weekend Trip to Cape Town & a Surprise Couples Photo Session}

We had a lovely time getting to know Charlotte and Thapelo while the very talented Michelle from Beauty Couture by Michelle made Charlotte look and feel like a queen for her husband's Surprise Couples Session.


Yup, you read that right! Thapelo had no idea what was planned! He actually had no idea what was planned for the entire weekend! It was his 30th Birthday and his brilliant wive surprised him with a weekend getaway filled with all sorts of lovely little surprises!

Thapelo says he had no idea what to pack for and only found out at OR Tambo International Airport that he was being whisked off to beautiful Cape Town for the weekend!


How did the two of you meet? Tell us about your Love Story!

We met each other in Varsity, we are both Industrial Engineers. Our first date was on a Friday, 11 Dec 2015. I still remember that the restaurant that he took me to was fully booked so we decided to go elsewhere for drinks while waiting for the restaurant to cool off. We spoke and spoke and spoke. We talked about our hopes, dreams and aspirations. We both wanted the same things out of life (a good job, our own home and children. Two years later hubby proposed and paid lobola. We had a traditional wedding on the 24th of March 2018. I love doing life with my husband.


How did the Surprise Couples Session go?

It was absolutely amazing. The pictures speak for themselves. I am just blown away by this photo shoot, it’s even impossible to put a price on such wonderful memories. Our makeup artist, Michelle, was also incredible.


Charlotte –how long had you been planning the surprise weekend away and surprise photo session? Were you scared that Thapelo would find out ahead of time? Tell us what went through your mind.

I have planned the vacation for about a year. So soon as his 29th birthday passed, I started planning. I sneakily asked him questions over several months like, “if we were to go on a vacation where would you want to go?” Based on his answers I started preparing for a trip. Then went on searching for activities to cover each day of the vacation, the first thing that came into my mind was a surprise couple shoot. Honestly I wasn’t scared that he will find out, I had to make sure that I do the planning at work.


Thapelo – did you have any idea? Were you surprised? Tell us what went through your mind when you arrived at the airport and learned that you were off to Cape Town? And what went through your mind when you found out you’re having a Surprise Couple’s Session?

Our trip was absolutely fantastic and showed us both how much we’d grown in love in our first two years in marriage. The day of the trip was so exciting, mixed emotions. I trusted my WIFE with everything, I didn’t want to ask much about the trip since it was a SURPRISE. Surprise photoshoot topped everything, I was completely caught off guard! We had the best experience with Karien. It was amazing, awesome, wonderful surprise that left me feeling so happy and loved.


What kind of look were you going for?

Since it was a SURPRISE, we went for something simple and nice.


Do you have any tips or advice for other couples about to have their photos taken?

Just be yourself. Karien is such a fun, comfortable person, which helps the subject to relax and have fun, it shows in her pictures :) 


What was your favorite part of our session together and why?

We both loved everything about this shoot!


Did anything exciting happen during your session? Yes, we’re talking about the sea lions! Tell us what happened, share your experience with us!

Hilarious moment when we got chased by a two sea lions. I swear to God…. one came after me, it came right up to me but nothing happened. Had a hard time getting ready for the shot while laughing, even few minutes later we were all mesmerized by what just happened. What an experience!


What a fun-filled day! From a Surprise flight down to Cape Town, to having a photographer and makeup artist knock at the door for a Surprise Photo Session, to being chased by 2 sea lions and then running to see the train go by over head - it truly was a jam-packed 1st day in Cape Town for Charlotte and Thapelo celebrating his Birthday! 


Was this your first time with Just Frame Me Photography? How was your overall session experience?

It was our first time with Just Frame Me Photography. To get intrigued by some of Karien’s mesmerizing photographs is not hard, they speak for themselves. We absolutely loved it and couldn’t get tired of telling our family and friends about it. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to create beautiful memories.
